A Little Retro

If I had to pick an era (or two) that I absolutely loved, it would be the 40s and 50s. I love full skirts and conservative silhouettes, yet I like to add some fun and flair to outfits.

When I think of those decades, I envision Allie from "The Notebook" with her circle skirts, pretty prints, and espadrilles, as well as the lovely ladies in "Mad Men" (But that's set in the early 60s). I love taking outfit inspiration from movies and TV shows... is that weird?
At the moment, I'm trying to get my grandma to find me some pictures of herself during those times, when she was probably around my age then.

Fun fact of the day: I am a major history buff and even started my Bachelor's in History before deciding to pursue another path in life.

Cardigan: Merona for Target, sz XS
Belt: From another skirt
Shoes: Lands End Canvas (Similar and on sale!)

On an unrelated note, I am so jealous of those lovely bloggers who have a different background everyday for their outfit pics. My town is very limited when it comes to anything relatively attractive... so for now, I'm working with the driveway and other areas around the house to spice things up a bit.

But someday, I'll be in a big city. That's obviously where my heart is!

  3. Have you seen Pleasantville? One of my all-time favorite movies and I bet you would like the clothes :)
Good luck with making it to a city! I grew up in a town of < 3,000 and the small town life was not my style, either. If you're looking for something TOTALLY different than life in the desert, I recommend Indianapolis!

    1. Arizona is full of land. Even residential areas have open land around them! I'm not sure if I like it too much anymore though. I really love the tall surroundings of big cities! haha

  6. If this was shot in your driveway, your driveway is gorgeous! I'd love to take my photos out there.

I'm too scared to make use of my big city to take my photos...I'm really weirded out about snapping them in front of anyone, so I stick to alleys and other shady places. :)

    1. I know how you feel, Lauren! I've only done outfit pics in a few public places... but I just try to forget the people staring at me. It's easier if there's a photographer taking your pics, instead of just you, a tripod, and a remote! Been there, done that. LOL!

And yes, this is in my driveway! AZ is full of open land...

  11. I looove the 50's...I go antique shopping/browsing about once a month.

Oh no I think your pictures are great...perfect background...I live in a city and it is hard to take pictures because.... People are always around. Then they stare at you weirdly when you take pictures of yourself.
