I've just never seen it as something I could incorporate into my work wardrobe, but more of a preppy-casual weekend staple. I'll have to hit up Pinterest to see if I can find some inspiration for work outfits!
Also, two things-- 1. Gingham is perfectly acceptable for Fall. And, 2. Button ups from the boys department make great slouchy and comfy weekend shirts. This shirt is from the J. Crew Crewcuts boys section, and its one of my all-time faves in my closet. If there's ever a sale soon, I'm definitely going to buy more of these for Fall. I give all credit to Kelly of Alterations Needed for showing us that we can borrow from the boys and still look feminine!
Sizing in the kid's dept is usually an issue, but for reference, I am 5' 3", have a 32 inch bust, and wear a size 14 (the largest in boys) comfortably. The only thing you have to get used to is the buttons being opposite of what we're accustomed to.
How would you all wear gingham for work? I'd love some suggestions!!
P.S. Don't forget to enter my Winter beauty bag giveaway! Only a few days left to enter! :)
I think your gingham shirt would be really cute tucked into a pencil skirt with a fun belt. Or, button it up a bit and layer a sparkly necklace over it.
ReplyDeleteI've been eyeing a crewcuts shirt for a while - thanks for sharing what size you're wearing. :)
Thanks, Carrie! That sounds like an awesome outfit, and i'm going to try it. :)
DeleteI know Jean from Extra Petite has done at least one post on wearing gingham. I found one of them (http://www.extrapetite.com/2012/01/style-in-suitcase-part-1-gingham-and.html), but I seem to remember her doing at least one more.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I remember those too! Must go back to find them! :)
DeleteI wear a my gingham Jcrew shirt to work with a navy or grey pencil skirt and neutral pumps. Just treat it like any other button-down.
ReplyDeleteNow I need some better fitting pencil skirts! You are right though. :)
DeleteYup, I wear size 14 from J. Crew boys! I am on the hunt for a gingham shirt (but I want a larger print). For work, you might try layering a sweater over, so just a little bit of gingham peeks out. Or maybe a blazer, since I know you love them!

I think I'm going to try it with the sweater layered over it. Gingham just seems so right for Fall!!
DeleteAnd definitely try the crewcuts shirts! They are AMAZING!
i almost got those shoes!! so cute!
ReplyDeleteAre those boyfriend jeans I spy? They're so cute! I've been a 100% skinny jeans girl for the past 5ish years, but am becoming very intrigued by the slouchy, comfy-looking boyfriend fit!

They're "real straight" jeans from Gap, which I guess means more tailored than boyfriend jeans, but looser than skinnies? haha! I was a 100% skinny jeans girl in high school, but I've moved on to bootcuts and "straight" fits.
DeleteYou should definitely try them, Lauren! I know you have those lovely Gap skinnies, so you'll love these too!
Great look! I love stealing from the little boys section sometimes :) I'd wear that shirt tucked into a black pencil skirt with a statement collar necklace in place of a tie and my hair piled up in a bun. Step into a classic pump and you're good to go!

Definitely going to try that! I love the high bun idea too :) Thanks Josephine!
Deletelove the casual outfit but also love your pink blush! It's so natural! What is it? I'd pair gingham with a sweater for work :)
ReplyDeleteI was wearing either Benefit's Hervana blush or Benefit Coralista. One of the two that I switch between! I believe I was wearing Hervana though...! :)
