Review: Urban Decay NAKED 2 Palette

After posting on Instagram about my recent purchase of the latest Urban Decay Naked palette, a couple of readers asked if I'd write a review on it. I guess everyone is in on the hype of the new palette, even though it was released quite a while ago!

Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette (or first edition here)

I'll start off by saying I wasn't as excited as everyone else was when this palette came out-- I hadn't even heard of the Naked palettes before! But since going through my makeup collection, I had realized that I lacked quality eyeshadows. Shopping for eyeshadow just doesn't seem as fun as shopping for lipstick, you know?

If you're like me and are terrible at choosing individual shades of eyeshadow, a palette is the way to go! I logged on to Sephora and bought this one, which is the "neutral sequel" to the original UD Naked Palette, which features brighter shades.

I must say, I am impressed. The colors are absolutely beautiful and super pigmented. I hardly had to sweep the brush across the shadow to pick up any color. This is how all eyeshadows should be!

UD NAKED
Here's a (somewhat) close up of all the colors. I haven't tried to mix and match them all yet, but I can tell that the colors will work well together or just on their own.

Today, I wore "Verve" as a base color all over my lid, concentrating on the inner corners for a highlight. Then I used "YDK" for my crease, and "Snakebite" to define the outer corners of my lids. I am definitely not an eyeshadow expert, and often just wear one shade all over my lid at a time. But with so many colors, why not experiment?

The end result is a very natural and soft wash of color. I normally use an eye primer, and probably should have to get a more dramatic result, but I wanted to see how the colors look on bare lids. It's not bad at all!

The price is a little hefty, but I assure you that the quality and variety make up for it. I'm curious to see if they release a third one!

Let me know if you have suggestions for your favorite eyeshadow palettes! I love trying new products!

  2. Yay! So glad you like it :) I heard they are releasing a half sized palette called naked basics or something. I think it's supposed to be all mattes :)

  5. totally get you when you say super pigmented b/c quality eye shadows are just that! i used to use drugstore ones, but i am in love with this one from Too Faced http://www.sephora.com/naked-eye-soft-sexy-eye-shadow-collection-P263701 and would love to have the naked palette too. but i only need one at a time since they'll last forever it seems!

    1. Lisa, that Too Faced one looks great! and much cheaper than the Naked palette :)

I'll keep this one in mind when it's time for another palette ;)

  6. I LOVE the Nakeds. I have both, but I must say I favor the 2 for my particular eye color. It's pretty much all I use now, although my "Sin" from Naked 1 has hit pot, so I'd recommend that color if you're looking at picking up any singles!
