More layers, please

I am really loving the layered look with dresses! I tried it this time with a turtleneck, and I love the result, especially with the bubble necklace.

Now I'm out of options for layering because I just don't know what else to wear underneath. Any suggestions, dear readers? I've tried button ups, a cowl neck, and now a turtleneck. I've also tried layering over a dress, but I haven't quite perfected that method yet.

Dress: Gap (Similar)
Sweater: Forever 21 (Similar)
Shoes: Tory Burch Eddie
Bag: Tory Burch East to West Tote
Necklace: eBay

I haven't been wearing my bubble necklaces lately and I'd like to change that! They seem to be a big hit with strangers. I'm looking into maybe getting a deep red or burgundy/plum one as well, if I can find them! :) I'm also really liking the cobalt blue one!

This weekend, I will be working on a couple gift guides for the guys and gals in your life, per some readers requests! I'll also be attending a good friend's wedding and I have a special outfit planned. Stay tuned for that, and have a happy Friday!

Featured Blogger: Phi Phi's Blog

To finish off November, I'm featuring PhiPhi's blog! I am a huge fan of her classic and preppy style, especially for her casual looks. She is SO chic! :)

hi long live classy readers! i'm really happy and honoured to be profiled here. megan asked me to talk a bit about myself.. so here goes! i'm phiphi from phiphi's blog, where i chronicle my style journey with outfits for my real life. i'm a petite at 5'3; live and work in canada; am a mom of 2; and, work full-time. rounding out the family with my husband and the kids are our two jack russell terriers that love to photo-bomb! we have a wonderfully chaotic household and i wouldn't want it any other way!

office looks - i work in an office setting, in a conservative field. i do push the envelope a bit with more colourful prints and such, but my office clothes must still stand up to a more professional setting especially if i have to go to meetings. i would define my style as girly, preppy and classic but with a twist.

casual looks - on weekends or days when i am able to dress more casually at work, i still like to have fun with clothes. they have to be functional for all of our chauffeur-related runs for the kids' activities. i am a big fan of layering, as i'm often cold. a good pair of flats, and it is a go!

thanks again to megan for profiling my blog - i hope you enjoyed this post! have a great week!

One of my favorite ways to bring sheath dresses into the colder months is to layer them over sweaters and shirts. To me, its a fresh take on the tried-and-true belted cardigan over a sheath dress combo.

Dress: H&M (Similar)
Sweater: Target (Almost identical)
Belt: Target
Shoes: J. Crew (old; purchased off of eBay) (Love these)

If the weather was colder (*sigh*), I'd wear my wool blazer over the ensemble for a chic wintery work look. :)

Next, I'm going to try turtlenecks! What other kinds of sweaters would you layer under a sheath dress? As you can see below, I've tried different blouses in the past:

And please excuse my sleepy-eyed look; The early setting sun does a blogger no favors and forces you to take your pics early in the morning. ;)

Giving Thanks.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, are now enjoying the Black Friday sales (I'm staying online) and relaxing for these next three glorious days off!

Even though we should be thankful every day of the year, I just wanted to express that I am thankful for this life-- though it is far from perfect, everything that comes my way shapes me into a better person. The good brings happiness and the bad teaches a lesson. I am also so thankful for a supportive family and good friends, as well as a decent job and comfortable lifestyle. I'm thankful for the opportunity to better my life. And lastly, I am thankful for YOU, as my dear blog friends and readers. With your support, you have brought me many opportunities and I cannot thank you enough for that.

Sometimes, we tend to focus on the negatives in life and forget about how much we have already. Take the time to count your blessings and appreciate what you have at the moment-- because we really don't know what we've got until it's gone.

Now here's some photos of the festivities from last night!

The table is all set...

Family everywhere! That's my dad carving the turkey.

My aunt had rented a giant slide for all of us "kids" to enjoy (Most of us are over the age of 14, haha). It was the BEST ever!

My two younger brothers and I. (It doesn't look like it, but I AM the oldest. Haha!)

And my two adorable little cousins. :)

Have a happy weekend, everyone! And remember, almost a month until Christmas!

Fair Isle Love

I only own three fair isle sweaters. And blame it on my Norwegian grandma, but I am dying for more! There's just something so classically-wintery about fair isle. And you can find one to match everything. Win-win.

Sweater: American Eagle Outfitters (Old; Cute here)
Blazer: J. Crew Schoolboy
Pants: Target (New colors every season)
Shoes: Sperry Topside Bluefish

In place of jeans on casual Friday, I like to wear colored chinos. A bit more work appropriate than jeans and still as comfy. My office environment is more business casual, so obviously this may not be okay for more corporate/professional environments!

Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I'll be cherishing this four day weekend, as well as putting together some gift guides and special blog posts... ;)

Enjoy it!

Welcoming the cold weather...

Last weekend, the weather was so delightfully cold that I was able to wear a coat and boots without looking out of place (AZ does that to you...). I bought this H&M coat a few months ago for only $30. Thirty dollars!!! It's chic, warm, and fully lined. This is the second coat I've purchased at such a great price from H&M, so I definitely recommend checking them out if you're on the market for a decent coat!

Shirt: J. Crew Rugby Stripe
Jeans: Gap Real Straight
Boots: Steve Madden (Still available!!)
Coat and Scarf: H&M (fairly recent)

I've had these leather Steve Madden boots for almost 2 years now and they're definitely a boot-weather favorite. However, I'm on the market for a "streamlined" pair of riding boots (one that isn't so slouchy), and I've been considering the J. Crew Booker boots, with the buckle. Unfortunately, they're unavailable now! I'm hoping maybe I can find a pair on eBay, or settle for the pair without the buckle.

Do you have any riding boot suggestions? I've been considering Tory Burch as well, but the price is steep. I want something that will last for years!

Enjoy the weekend. :)

Comfy Work Pants... (Sponsored)

Keeping this week's sponsored post short and simple-- my picks for the classic black work pant!

work pants

Ann Taylor | Ecru (More here) | Gap | J. Crew

I personally own two out of the three featured here-- the AT Bi-Stretch wool (my absolute fave) and the Gap Modern Boot pants. I've been meaning to find the perfect pair of wool pants for Winter time, but have yet to stumble upon a good pair. I know LOFT had some good ones a while back, but I unfortunately missed out on those. :( I'm considering the J. Crew wool skimmers... what do you think?

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

November's Featured Blogger: Petite Therapy

Guys. I LOVE Cathy's blog. Her outfits are so stylish, yet so practical. Just what I love. I hope you enjoy checking out her blog! :)

Hi Long Live Classy Readers!
This is Cathy from Petite Therapy. I’m so pleased to be featured on Megan’s blog this month. Let me tell you a little bit about myself.

Who is Cathy?
I’m a petite 20 something blogger who just moved to New York City this year. I’ve learned the hard way that heels may not be the best walking shoes to wear in this walking city. I keep a pair of flats in my bag whenever I need to wear heels. I don’t know how Carrie Bradshaw does it.

What is Petite Therapy About?
Petite Therapy is a blog about fashion and personal living in the perspective of a 5 foot (or officially 4' 11 3/4'') bargain hunting and practical petite. It’s not easy finding a good deal on clothes & shoes that are well made and in a petite fit. Sometimes I’m lucky and sometimes I’m not lucky and splurge a little bit. I just started sewing classes, so I hope to get a better understanding of alternations and even make my own clothes one day!

What is your Style?
I’m a bit of a fashion chameleon. My outfit depends on my mood and the occasion. I can be classy, preppy, feminine, edgy, professional, or casual. Since I’m such a chameleon, accessories are my best friend. I can’t live without my colorful scarves, statement jewelry pieces, and leopard flats.

What are your most popular posts?

Weekend Chic: Layers and Cap Toes

I wouldn't normally wear heels for the weekend, but these shoes were just calling out to me from my closet. The color, the cap toe, the almost j. crew-like style... all so perfect for this season. And only $32 from Target. Swoon.

These pumps are available in four colors-- red, pink, navy, and emerald. I am tempted to go back and get a navy pair, but I think I may wait until they go on sale later on in the season (If they're still in stock!).

Blazer: J. Crew Schoolboy
Sweater: Target
Blouse: Gap (Similar)
Jeans: Gap Real Straight
Shoes: Target (Available in store only)
Necklace: Ann Taylor
Glasses: c/o Firmoo Optical

This past weekend was actually cold, so layers were a must. I'm so happy to finally know how to layer correctly without feeling bulky! And the blazer just pulls it all together. I can't get enough of it.

It's that time of year... (Sponsored)

When late November rolls around, Christmas and New Year's parties are on everyone's mind. We're all attracted to shimmery gold and silver accessories, that perfect LBD, and pretty cranberry red lipsticks!

While I wish I could attend all the holiday parties I envision in my mind, I do occasionally get invited to someone's fancy event, which calls for a fancy dress. Today, I'm sharing my picks of a few party-ready dresses to get you all excited for the upcoming holiday season... :)

BHLDN | Lilly Pulitzer | Modcloth | Kate Spade | Jude Connally (more here)

While most of these are way out of my price range at the moment, I can't help but love them! :) What kind of party dresses are you looking into?

Happy Friday!

A note to my readers: This is a sponsored post. Darien Sport is the newest sponsor of Long Live Classy, and one of the terms of our "contract" is one sponsored post per week. So please expect some sort of collaborative collage post (like this one, and the ones for the past two weeks) every Friday afternoon. I do try to make them as engaging and helpful as possible. :) Thank you for reading!
