Casual Sparkle for NYE

One of my most popular posts this time of year is my (mediocre) "How to wear a sequin skirt 4 ways" from last year. I had planned to do another one and revamp it for this year, but I ran out of time! New Year's crept up on us before we knew it this year.

This is probably one of my favorite outfits of the year. I took inspiration from Pinterest to pair casual plaid shirt with a sequin skirt and the combination is just lovely. I wore this outfit on Christmas Eve, but it's obviously NYE appropriate. :)
Lately I have been lusting over the plaid flannel shirts from J. Crew that EVERYONE in the blogging world seems to be wearing, but I didn't take advantage of it until the 30% off sale. This shirt was still a little pricey, but the print, fit, quality, and material are top notch. This piece will live in my closet forever.

Skirt: J. Crew Factory (old; Similar)
Shirt: J. Crew in Black Watch Plaid (Try in-store)
Jacket: H&M (Similar)
Boots: J. Crew Booker
Bag: Tory Burch (an early Christmas gift)

I completed this ensemble with a classic trench and my beloved Booker boots. I wear them as often as possible and I know I'll be sad when I have to put them away in the Spring time.

If you're looking for a way to wear your trench coats without the hassle of the tie-waist belt, try tying a bow in the back of your jacket-- it gives a flattering shape and allows you to wear your trench opened. All credit goes to Kelly of Alterations Needed for this idea she shared last year!

This skirt is the same one that Jean from Extra Petite has and wore last year. You can see how I wore it for last year's NYE here!

And as I wrap up my last post of 2012... I just want to thank all of you who read my blog and take the time to comment and interact. Here's to another great year of great style! Happy 2013, everyone. :) Enjoy!

Anchors Again

Blazer: J. Crew Schoolboy
Shirt: Target (Recent; in-store)
Leggings: Amazon
Boots: J. Crew Booker
Necklace: Ann Taylor (old)

Just a quick post with my beloved J. Crew Booker boots and a new find-- fleece leggings (Thanks to Tiffany @ I Am Style-Ish for the recommendation!). I have never been a leggings person until now, and only because these leggings are heavyweight and feel more like pants (as opposed to thin yoga pants/leggings). They are also incredibly warm and a lovely option in place of jeans.

I have a personal rule when it comes to wearing leggings: No butt or crotch showing (for lack of better words), and tall boots only. Sometimes you can get away with a shorter shirt if you're wearing a long sweater or jacket over it. :) We've all seen "leggings faux-pas", and I try to avoid those as much as possible!

I hope you all had a great Christmas! I do have a Winter giveaway planned for you all... but I've been procrastinating! More on that soon. :)

Still Trying to be Festive...

One of the many reasons I look forward to this time of year is the all the glitter and sequins. It's the one season of the year where its acceptable to be glitzy and glamorous, even during the day. So that's what I did!

I like to tone down the glitter for work attire, and I thought this cardigan was perfect! Its just the right amount of sequins to keep it subtle. I wore this outfit for our annual office Christmas party (just a casual luncheon), but I felt it was still appropriate. :)

New Sole Society wedges-- Not as comfy as I expected, but Sole Society is great nonetheless!
Skirt: Target (old; Similar)
Shirt: Gap (old; Similar)
Cardigan: Target
Tights: J. Crew (Great quality)
Shoes: Sole Society

Please excuse my tired face and unkempt bed-head hair. Like I said, I am constantly busy these days and have had to sacrifice some time in the mornings. Fingers crossed that this changes soon!

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas! I know I'm looking forward to it :)

'Tis the Season for Red and Plaid

The Christmas season gives us all kind of excuse to wear glitter, bright reds and greens, and even ugly sweaters. We can all be a little festive this time of year, especially with what we wear!

Skirt: Nordstrom (old)
Shirt: Target
Shoes: Ann Taylor
Necklace: Vintage from grandma

Plaid and red is a classic Christmasy combination. I wish I had more occasions to dress "festively", but there isn't much going on here in my little town! Someday, maybe.

I suppose there isn't much else to say-- other than making a note of my infrequent outfit posts. I have been swamped with working a full-time job and running a photography business on the weekends, as well as trying to get Chic for a Week up and running. I've never been so exhausted in my life, and getting ready in the morning has been so unmotivating that I'll throw an outfit together quickly and walk out the door. I haven't even felt like wearing my contact lenses or putting on my usual amount of makeup lately.

I'm tired, but I don't want to sacrifice my blog, and I won't. I look back and think, "How in the world did I manage to blog every day/every other day?". I guess that was before I was trying to run a business. This is tough stuff. And I hope it pays off in the end... I really do.

Better late than never-- The Gift Guide for Her!

I'm usually a procrastinator when it comes to buying gifts-- mostly because I want to find the perfect gift for each person, and that takes some thought and time. This year, however, I knew exactly what to get everyone on my list, and finished all my gift shopping early this year. Whew.

Giving gifts is honestly one of my favorite things. I love extravagantly wrapping up each gift and getting someone exactly what they'd love. 'Tis the season!

Gift Guide for Her 2012

Chevron Case | Glitter Case | Bow Sweater | Chocolates | Booties | Scarf | Hat | Gloves | Makeup

I know it's nine days until Christmas, but for those of you who just don't know what to get for that special gal in your life-- I hope I can help! Last minute shoppers, unite!

An iPhone case is always welcome and useful in a gal's life. I know I change my case often! And you cannot go wrong with a sweater, hat, gloves, or a scarf. It's Winter time. Keep her warm and cozy! I own these booties above for myself and wear them constantly around the house. It's a chicer/cuter alternative to the standard house slipper.
Lastly, every girls needs a good makeup set. This has every color under the sun.

As for the chocolates-- my Aunt opened up her own gourmet chocolate shop, Tamami Chocolates, in Oregon and is now shipping out online orders! Obviously, chocolate and the holidays are a great match and a great gift.

Stay tuned for the last-minute guys gift guide, up on my neglected Long Live Classy Man blog! ;)

Winter Weekend Uniform

Vest: American Eagle Outfitters (similar; the best I could find!)
Sweater: Target
Jeans: Gap Real Straight
Boots: Gap Sherpa Booties

I love weekends. I mean, who doesn't? It's the only time of the week that I can wear my casual cozy Winter clothing and boots. I can do nothing if I feel like it (But I'm always busy anyway). And I don't have to worry about an early alarm clock. Love.

Since the weather here is typical for Arizona (mildly cold, of course), there's hardly any need for Winter coats during the day so a decent jacket will fare well. I, however, tend to get too hot and bulky with all the layers I like to wear, so a puffer vest has become a Winter staple!

I want to get one in every color someday. They match with everything casual and are just perfect for those days when its not hot out... but its not too cold either. Arizona weather! Yeah! Here you can see how I wore this vest earlier in January of this year. By the way, be sure to snag as many colors of this Target sweater as you possibly can (there's more in-store). They're SO soft, warm, inexpensive, and resemble the J. Crew Tippi sweater.

These booties are one of my new ALL TIME favorite Winter shoes. They're comfy like a slipper but feel "rugged" enough to wear outside, because of the thicker rubber sole and tougher suede. I will definitely be wearing these for years to come!

What's your Winter weekend "uniform"? I'd love some more outfit inspiration!

Dorothy Perkins USA + eBay Scarves

You've probably heard of Dorothy Perkins before (a large retailer in the UK), and maybe even browsed their website. They're almost like a British Forever 21, but with clothing a bit of higher quality. Anyway, Dorothy Perkins is now expanding their presence in the US and asked me to write up a review on a couple of their items.

Dress: c/o Dorothy Perkins
Booties: Target
Belt: Target
Scarf: eBay
Sunglasses: Ray Ban

I chose this lovely purple dress for its versatility-- I knew it would fare well in both an office and casual environment, and layer well with scarves, sweaters, and jackets, as well as work with flats, boots, or heels. It's an all-season dress (which every girl needs).

The material and fit is so lovely-- no complaints there. The only thing that confuses me with DP is their sizing. Before you order, make sure that your country is set right on their website, because a US 2 is equivalent to a UK 6, a US 4 is a UK 8, etc. Their sizing chart changes when you change your country. The labels on their clothing are all in UK sizing. I'm not sure if this will change as they expand into the US, but it's just something to keep in mind when ordering.

How do you all feel about wearing booties with bare legs? Obviously the weather here is so mild that I look like I'm dressed for early Fall, but I still want to take advantage of all the cold weather styles! I know Jean talked about her conflicting idea of wearing booties with bare legs as well. She looks so chic either way!

I also want to take a moment to talk about yet another cheapie eBay find, which is this Burberry-esque scarf that I found (shipped from China of course) for just under $4.

I chose a striped infinity scarf from Dorothy Perkins as well, which will be featured with another outfit soon enough. They are definitely worth checking out.

Have a great week, everyone! Gift guides will be up in a couple of days :)

Brooks Brothers Bow Ties

Lately, my motivation to put together something decent in the morning has been lacking. Mostly because (1) I am exhausted, and (2) the sun just goes down so early that I'm rushing out the door after work to catch the last glimpse of daylight. Thus, dark, grainy photos are born. Boo you, Winter.

Dress: Banana Republic Factory (Similar; See on Jean here)
Blazer: J. Crew Schoolboy
Shoes: Brooks Brothers
Necklace + Bracelet: Ann Taylor
Watch: Fossil
Bag: Tory Burch (Similar)

I did, however, try to wear something nice today so I can break in these new Brooks Brothers flats. My grandma raves about how much she loves Brooks Brothers, but I've always found their clothing to be a little too... mature for me (for lack of better words). During their Black Friday sale, I checked out their shoe collection and quite a few pairs sparked my interest. BB reminds me of how I feel about Talbots-- I don't care for their clothing, but their shoes are lovely!
I went for these bow tie flats first, to have as a preppy closet staple. Even with the green bow, I feel that the cognac color is enough to still match with various outfits.

Boy, am I impressed with the fit and quality! This has got to be the softest and sturdiest all-leather flat that I've worn. My Tory Burch Caroline's are soft, but they feel more like a slipper. These have a sturdy sole but the softest leather. I am now curious to see how their other shoes fare.

Have you tried Brooks Brothers shoes? If so, what do you think about them?

Wedding Wear + eShakti Review

Yesterday, Nick and I attended the wedding of our good friends and used it as an excuse to get all dressed up. That's our idea of fun!

I decided to wear this classic red dress (very appropriate considering it's December now!), courtesy of eShakti, a clothing line that can custom tailor any of their pieces for you.

(Please excuse the glare)
Dress: c/o eShakti
Shoes: Manolo Blahnik, via eBay
Belt: Ann Taylor
Necklace: Ann Taylor
Bag: Dorothy Perkins via Threadflip
Lipstick: Too Faced in "Stiletto red"

On Nick: Express wool "photographer" suit

eShakti is amazing. Though their prices per dress are a little on the steeper side (nothing more than $100 though), you are able to customize the length, sleeves, and other aspects to suit your fitting needs! The only thing I customized on this dress was the length, as I prefer a dress that hits right at the knee.

I'm really impressed with the quality of this dress. The material is relatively heavyweight and it's fully lined, which is a plus. I will definitely be back for more when I'm in need of a special dress!

I paired it with one of my most treasured pieces in my closet-- These Manolo Blahnik "Hangisi" satin pumps, which I miraculously found in my size on eBay. I was the only bidder on the item, and I scored these for much, much less than retail price. (PS-- I did check authenticity). They are like a treasure!

I hope you all enjoy the last of your weekend! I'm looking forward to what December has to offer. :)
